If I try to move Miss Badness the broody back into her broody pen (as it will be safer for the chicks) would it be best to move her right after she hatches her eggs or 1 or 2 days after the first chick hatches. I am afraid to move her now as she is so close to hatch date and when I first moved her into the broody box and first placed eggs under her, at daybreak she refused to sit on them anymore, insisting on brooding back in the coop nest she had been sitting in for a few days on fake eggs. She has stayed on the coop nest with her real eggs with no problem so far, But I am afraid the chicks won't be safe in the coop. And she will be unhappy if I pen her in a small space. Unhappy means yelling her head off and running around the small space instead of caring for chicks.

Actually my husband gave me my call name. Don't know why he chose it for me other than I'm kinda sorta petite and had a bunch of little chicks at the time.

Thanks for the invite. This stuff is contagious. I just ordered an incubator for the eggs the kiris keep laying. Hubby wants to try & hatch them without the chicken. I think he should let her do it but it's probably my fault for telling him about your experiments & now he's inspired. Being as I need him to finish the coop for my Wyandottes, I sort of have to go along with it.:idunno

My 12yo boys cook. It takes longer when they help, of course, and left to their own devices, they concoct some interesting things. But, cooking is a life skill they've quit teaching at school and there is no way I'm letting them go out in the world having no clue how to take care of themselves. They can sew, too, and have basic carpentry skills. My middle school offered electives in all of those things (plus pottery making!), theirs has zero.
