Bobo? But that's not on the Kiki Speak list! The only Bobo I've ever seen reference to was the little rat-dog! BooBoo-Bobo?
It's not an injury, that's just what DD thought the first time she noticed it ... today ... she said she thought The Boys were fighting. A good half-dozen of them have the black "bubbles," but poor Avatar has them the worst. Figures ... he's really small and is the first or our Nankins to sport the tight rose comb we've been trying to develop.
At the moment, he's indoors in a small kennel, where we can be sure he's eating and drinking . Yes to food. No to liquids. He will eat crumbles soaked in Pedialyte, so that's the route we're going, at the moment. He really doesn't want the liquids. I can't get a good look, but he may have a yellow blister on the end of his tongue ... that's not a good sign, is it?
I have NO experience with fowl pox, and my Extension Office is closed. I'm not quite panicked ... but I'm getting there ...
Yes, that looks like dry pox to me. If he doesn't have any yellow lesions in his beak or throat (wet pox) then you're in luck.
There is no treatment for wet or dry pox. He will get better within a couple of weeks but it will take a while to move through the entire flock.
It will very likely reoccur in future months/years—nothing to do for it but try and control the mosquitos (hah, as if).

To talk of how we handle or tolerate weather differentials....

Before my knee surgery 2 summers ago my thermal tolerances were as follows:
39°F = cold enough to wear pants.
~10°F = cold enough for wool socks if I'm outside for over an hour or potentially getting wet feet.
-5-10°F = time for a muffler
-10 = gloves inside mittens

If humidity is factored in then the number change quite a bit. Humidity is such a heatsink. A painful extractor of thermal energy so fast that it actually would hurt my digits on all 4 appendages. The fun chemicals did such damage to my nerves.... Yeuck! Humidity in heat is not my friend most of the time. The ONLY time it's my friend is in a sauna or sweat lodge.

Since the surgery..... (Grumbles) I'd lost more then just strength and stamina....
Sitting at the kiddos soccer games in the cold rain means I now need pants with the temp below ~60°F. If it's not raining pants are now ~50-65°F depending on how high the humidity gets.

Insulated gloves are needed below ~50°F if the humidity is too high.... At the soccer games.

Now-a-days I sometimes feel the need for socks when it's down near 60°F.

And this sucks!

A Hoodie or my Tilley Hat if the wind is borderline cold on the soccer field.

I can still feel comfy in short sleeve shirts down into the 30's if it's a dry cold. Yet, I have had a few days last "winter" when I felt the need for a flannel long sleeve in the house or outside. THAT was not fun!

The fact that I actually felt comfy in my camo pants in 60 & 70° weather while working on stuff was rather disconcerting last fall and early this spring.

I do miss the cold, crispy winter air when it's single digits before wind-chill and the wind is nearly calm with humidity below 20%. That fresh air was always so energizing. Feeling the tingling in the nasal canal or on the back of my throat....

I do not miss it enough to move north, thank you very much.

Of course with all things YMMV!

Cheers.
Time to go watch a couple episodes of Supergirl with the kiddos before bed.

Good night y'all
.........(grumbles) "darn DSL!" 3+ hrs ago I tapped "send" on the screen, watched the cylon scrolling blue bar across the top of the browsers bar..... Now it's 01:30 and I'm still stuck in this creation window. It was this way for several hours the last 2-3 days on occasion.... Not just this website either. WX sites, email inboxes......(growls).....

... Uhm... "Sonaa! Dare retashi oita!"
Is that right? Did my Japanese for Dummies book mislead me? Well, that and Jisho . org, but you get the idea.
... Now, what does it mean...? I think that "sonaa" basically means, "I see," but the rest...?
If my dusty memory is close.....

"So, glad to meet ya"

You don't differentiate wasps from bees by their color. Wasps have a "wasp waist". The thorax and abdomen connect through a very narrow waist.

Bees are hairy. Wasps are not.

Honeybees are just one of many kinds of bees. Honeybees can come in a wide variety of colors ranging from light colored Italians to dark Carniolans.

The Difference Between Wasps and Bees
Thanks! This is helpful! I was mostly just comparing them to yellowjackets and the more golden type color honey bees we have around here since those seem to be the two most common ones that we have here. But I’m sure there’s probably many other species and I’m sure we do have others. I didn’t get too close to them but I believe they have more of a bee body than a was body. They looked like bees except the color. But I’ll try to look more closely tomorrow.

Okay Crew - I have a totally non-related question ... but it's about my chickens.
Is this dry fowl pox?

Same bird -both sides of his face - about a year old Nankin rooster.
I HATE 2020!
As already stated this looks like dry pox. The only thing you can do is dab with iodine tincture to help it dry out and fall off sooner. Will help with the itch too.
And provide you whole flock with fresh and healthy food: grated carrots with essential oil or plain greek yoghurt, brewers yeast, millet, oatmeal and scrambled eggs.

I have no idea :( Mr Sam, are you familiar with fowl pox (or is my memory playing tricks again)

@sdm111
Deal with it every year. What about it?
I like it I wish for it every August/September all my young get it and after they are immune for life. We even go to the extreme of giving and taking infected birds to other flocks so they get it and get immune to it. It's not if but when down here
Yes we infect them on purpose. You can waste money on vaccines if you want but that's still not a guarantee and imo a sales gimmick
To me it makes for strong blood
For them to get stuff instead of fragile blood from giving meds and immunizations for everything if in doubt look at any of the pics I put up it quite evident they're going in the right direction

:lau :gig :lau you guys are KILLING me!!! I am DYING here! :lau :gig :lau

For clarification, Maryland is not Midwest. It is included in the Northeast portion of “northeast and Midwest” :tongue😂

Ohio is the Midwest one. 😜

And Maine might as well be Canada. 😂

When you get far enough up there you are pretty dang close to Canada! And they have deep wilderness, moose, and maple syrup just like Canada. 😜
We got maple syrup here too. Now I'm Canadian... :lau :gig

I had to go buy pumpkin things tonight after the discussion 😂🤣 I suddenly really had a craving for pumpkin 😂🤣 the grocery store did not have any pumpkin stuff so I had to go to Dunkin 😂🤣 they had LOTS of stuff! :D I got a muffin and a donut 😂 that satisfied it. :D I’m good for a while now lmao
Ahhhhhh the life...able to go to Dunkin'...and Krispy Kreme...and Wendy's...anytime you wanted.
