I need some ideas for hawk defense... so far i have had 11 of my full grown hens killed and eaten by hawks. + 2 banty roosters. I've been trying to figure out a way to keep them away but havent found the solution. putting up nets is such a eyesore and i don't think fishing line would work either as they can fly through dense forest at 55-60 mph. some time ,depending on the size of the hawk, they are carried away other times eaten on the spot. I would happily shoot the hawks but its illegal.:-( NEED IDEAS. I'me like :barnie:bow:he

I've found that the only way to stop them is to cover the run with netting or wire. It may be an eyesore, but it's well worth it for safer birds.

well the first problem is that my run is a little over a acre so ti would cost a lot of money do cover the hole thing plus it would be such a eye sore. i priced the netting at $100 dollars for a 50'x50' ft net.

The nets don't look bad in my opinion. We have 3 large runs with netting and thank goodness we do because we have curious and hungry hawks.
Netting or a covered run are your 2 best options....esp since the hawks have already gotten meals from your pens.
