Ive heard what called a "monky trap" i think, maybe part added to name.. used by mountain folk a hundred years ago back to colonizing (i use colonization loosely, being "native american" which the term seems like raping someone then calling them a slut) days in usa. Involves a short piece of log with hole drilled etc out, that is just bigger than what paw of coon should be, then taking something shiny just bigger than hole n putting in log, then seal both sides of log around so log facing up, log weighted etc down. I've heard of snares and other bait too, but other animals won't bother trap, and coons will grab shiny object then not be able to pull paw out but won't let go of object either. seen it work twice, but seems labor intensive today..
