kind if rude

That is a question that only a female duck can answer. How does any female chose her male after all. You will get a hint because the female will "court" the male by bobbing her head. Yes, the all seem to do that a lot...little tramps that they are.

Ha-ha they do!

They know who they actually want, but sometimes they don't have a choice of "flirting" with just one male, and if a male has too much competition, others can, and will seem to "rape" the hen.... That's why it's so important to keep ratios of female/ males accurate; safety and comfort of the hen...

To extrapolate further on how she chooses her mate? The prettiest? The nicest? The healthiest?...Pheromones, ie smells good?... The most virile?... A combination of all of the above actually... Just like people lol ;)

@anyoneHow do they choose the male? Can hen lay more than 1 egg a day?

It's not common, usually ducks have a peak season in spring where they lay daily to build up a nest, and may lay every few days through summer, depending on breed... Some laying breeds like runners and Golden's are bred to lay, so they do lay more often... But 2 eggs in one day from a duck would be quite rare I believe.

Not unheard of, just rare. :)

well thanks everyone I'm now happy that my little 2 year old is not gonna coming running in from the garden with a great dong saying mummy whats this ( I breathe a sigh of relief ahhh ) I shall enjoy the antics that happen in the forth coming months:)
Just one more question are my hens as in the chickens going to be safe from the Randy drake or will I have to put pants on em lol

I've never seen it drop off, but sometimes Wobbles will, erm..."let it go" when he's in season as a way of showing off. It's like the duck version of a naughty snapchat pee-pee photo. And as he does it he stares...right...at...me! It's jarring, to say the least!

Watch them. If the drake tries to mount the hens (chickens) you will want to move the ducks into their own area. Chicken anatomy is not the same as duck and they are not designed to actually be penetrated. Mating with a duck an seriously injure and/or kill your chickens.

Thanks I will keep an eye is it very likely he might???:)
I have one drake in with 21 laying hens and he never has shown any interest. He has his three lady ducks and that is fine with him. However, I have seen discussion here on BYC that is just the opposite and dealing with injury to hens. So, watch closely. His lady ducks may be enough for him. Be prepared to get him out of there if necessary though.
