Kind of a newbie/looking to make my own chicken food

Hello! I am happy to have found this forum. I currently have about 12 week old (4) chickens and (2) Roos. Got them at Wilco and apparently they had a higher rate of Roos than they advertised. Oh well. I plan on splitting them up soon so we don’t have any fighting issues.

What I am really curious about is making my own chicken food. Does it save $ in the long run? I currently buy organic so it is more expensive and getting harder to get. Thoughts?

The recipe is on my computer, my friend does organic home mixed feed. I dont know prices but i can tell you what she uses and approximately how much. I'll get it for you tomorrow though it's late here.

Hello and Welcome to BYC. I have been researching this and there are some post here and other places on the internet.
Look for "Fermenting Poultry Food" or just "Chicken feed". And check with your local feed store and coop. I do believe this is cheaper if you buy in bulk.

No, you cannot make a complete feed that is less expensive than what you would pay at the feed store.
