Hello, hello.

So recently, after mistakenly believing my chicks and chickens were used to each other, I let them into the same area. Its a large area as well, so i thought there was going to be no problems..

Fast forward a day, and I come down to put my chickens up- and I found one of my smaller chicks laying outside the pen with a hole in its head. A hole deep enough to the skull, bleeding nearly to death.

I immediately brought her in, stopped the bleeding to the best of my ability and got a seperate area set up for her while she healed. Now, im looking for something to put on the wound to stop it from getting infected, or even just helping the healing process. I have researched google several times, checked other posts, and it just gave me a lot of things..

Anyone know which to use?

You need to post this to emergencies/diseases forum. I will tell you what I know-treat for shock with a little sugar water and keep it in a quiet place. You need to take pictures of the wound to post here as well so people can help you properly.

Sorry for the late! Been too busy to reply, and my phones currently dead so i can't take pictures 🤦‍♀️ [set this up on my computer]
Vetricyn can help keep the wound clean I think but I’m not an expert. With photos and posting it to the other forum people who know will be able to help.
Thanks! I saw this a day ago and started using it. She's doing a little better. She's eating/drinking and taking the occasional [chicken] treats.
Make sure that any antibiotic ointment that you use is the kind WITHOUT pain relief, as that is toxic to chickens.
Welcome to BYC. Use triple antibiotic ointment without pain killer.
Good to know! Sadly i couldn't find anything yesterday other that the vetericyn (unless thats it- kind of an idiot when it comes to medicines) But I'll check today for anything else.

When we say triple antibiotic ointment, think Neosporin, you probably have some in your medicine cabinet, or its generic equivalent. It does not have to be specific for chickens or even animals. Just look carefully at the fine print on the front, don't use if it says + Pain Reliever. Neosporin ORIGINAL is what you want.

Oohh alright. Thanks!
Oh, and the ointment is better than the cream. It stays goopy longe
Okay lol, I'll dig through my meds cabinet and see if we have any. Thanks for the info!
