kind of sad

Not Silkie, Polish. He was a Large Fowl Polish. Much bigger than a silkie, and with normal feathers but they do have a crest like silkies. His feet were black but his skin was white, not that it mattered to me since I skinned him instead of plucking. I figure if they're in the crockpot anyway, no sense in all the extra work.

I'd imagine silkies are plenty eatable, just so small you'd feel like it wasn't worth the bother. But the meat wouldn't necessarily be black, just the skin.

PS - he tastes great.

Silkies are pretty tasty - they are smaller of course, but they are chicken. The meat is darker than standard chickens, with a dark tinge at the ends (the tendons are almost black). I had picked up a bunch of silkie and silkle/frizzle roos to process - skinned them all out and simmered them down to make a couple gallons of delicious stock and a few pounds of shredded meat for enchiladas etc.
