Kitchen in coop

Thanks for the recommendations! I actually do sell (milk, butter, yogurt, eggs, hatched chicks, and jam), DH says he wants to make it easy to sell organic chicken as a few people have been asking.

Jealous doesn't come close to it. WOW!!!

Organic chicken implies butchering. That might add a layer of complexity that says that's too much. Even if you process elsewhere just having raw meat in there might cross regulations. I suggest you pass it by your health department to see if you need a permit since it is such a commercial area. Hatching chicks in there might be a problem. Before I sunk that much money into it I'd want o make sure it was legal for your activities. Or at least know the risks. You may need two separate rooms.

I don't know where you are but I'd probably want an air conditioner in there, at least a window unit. You may have covered this and I missed it.

Chickens create a lot of dust. I'd want a good dust barrier between this kitchen and the coop.

In my dream world I'd have a propane tank and burner so I could can down there instead of heating up the house plus heat water for plucking. This might be more efficient than using electricity.

Twice as much counter space and twice as many electrical outlets as you think you need. Put in a breaker box so you can have different circuits.

It sounds like you are going to be spending a lot of time in thus so definitely do it right. Think of your comfort and convenience. Good luck!

I'd put the kitchen as far from the coop as possible with doors that shut tight to keep the dust from the coop from invading your kitchen. The other side of your milking parlour sounds like the right spot for me. Especially since most of what will require refrigeration will come from the dairy.

As a compromise, I'd get a faucet with a threaded end to be able to attach a hose and snake it through to the chickens' run. Or run some additional plumbing with a water tap outside the run with the tap extending into the run.

I live in Idaho and we don’t have a lot of regulations...some but not a lot. I have been to the dept of health and welfare for regulations before but not recently so maybe I will head in. We actually have raw milk in our local grocery store so it’s not super strict.

I'm just reading this thread and thinking how amazing this would be to have... then I read you're in Idaho, me too!! I want to come visit when this masterpiece is finished! Lol :frow

ok hear me out...I hatch a lot of fowl. We are building a chicken coop. I also have a milk cow. My husband (he is a plumber) is going all out for this coop. He is putting hydronic heat in and running water. (Obviously for watering but also washing things, etc) so he is putting in an industrial sink and added a wing for my cow saying it would be warmer in there for milking. He wants me to decide where the “coop kitchen” should go so he knows where to bring the water up in the floor.

Here is the question: If you had a coop/milk barn with the option for a kitchen, how far would you go with it? Sink of course but fridge for storing milk? Workstation, stove, etc for butter and cheese?

Advice would be appreciated! And if anyone has something like this I would love to see pictures!
