Kitchen in coop

Advice would be appreciated! And if anyone has something like this I would love to see pictures![/QUOTE]

Consider mitigating the dust from the coop side. Cooped chickens creat a LOT of dust bathing, and some dry beddings are worse then others.

Elector PSP is the only fly control spray I know that can be used around dairy cows, but adding natural methods like fly predators could help.

I live in Idaho and we don’t have a lot of regulations...some but not a lot. I have been to the dept of health and welfare for regulations before but not recently so maybe I will head in. We actually have raw milk in our local grocery store so it’s not super strict.

I live in Idaho also. The farm we get milk from is certified so if you want to sell you can go this route also. I think she said that they test the milk once or twice yearly to stay certified.

ok hear me out...I hatch a lot of fowl. We are building a chicken coop. I also have a milk cow. My husband (he is a plumber) is going all out for this coop. He is putting hydronic heat in and running water. (Obviously for watering but also washing things, etc) so he is putting in an industrial sink and added a wing for my cow saying it would be warmer in there for milking. He wants me to decide where the “coop kitchen” should go so he knows where to bring the water up in the floor.

Here is the question: If you had a coop/milk barn with the option for a kitchen, how far would you go with it? Sink of course but fridge for storing milk? Workstation, stove, etc for butter and cheese?

Advice would be appreciated! And if anyone has something like this I would love to see pictures!

Consider that having chickens, a source for salmonella at the least, in close proximity to where you are milking is unwise as well as dangerously unhealthy. Doesn't have to be direct contact. There will be dust and dried manure particles no matter how hard you try.
Just what I was thinking. My chickens are more than 200 feet from my house. LOL They have the orchard, berry patch and 3 coops to wandering around in, and I love spending time with them, but I do it way out there. I'm so bad that if an apple hits the ground, it's theirs. So are all the low hanging berries.

You have all given me a lot to think about...some for some against and good points brought out on each side.

The plans have the chickens in a closed off wing with the center area closed off for food storage, clean floors and an egg collecting area with the kitchen being it’s own room (closed off) on the other side of that closed off area.

Do you have to have your processing facility(kitchen) inspected in order to sell to the public?
