Kitchen in coop

There are reports of 279 cases of salmonella in 40 states this year alone being attributed atm to backyard chickens. Good luck with your kitchen, but please do a couple things to keep it safe. Wear gloves and shoes specially designated for the chicken areas that come off before you enter the kitchen area. Have hand sanitizer at the door and use it. Have a pair of shoes you wear in the kitchen that never go into the chicken area. You may need a small mudroom between the two for this. :old

Do you have to have your processing facility(kitchen) inspected in order to sell to the public?

And I believe the degree of inspection also depends on the degree of selling. The health inspector told me if I sold privately he won’t bother coming to inspect it but will if I intend on selling in stores but I am not sure I want to do that. Still might be worth it to ensure safety though.

I do have a friend who sells milk and has to have someone out regularly but her milk kitchen is in the barn as well and I don’t even think everything is stainless steel so the regulations seem much lower.

Selling 'privately' means just not in stores, farmers market, etc?
Maybe you can sell on the farm tho....or just to 'friends and family'?

Fine print could be tricky.

Your friends experience might be worth it's weight in gold tho.

I should definitely ask about farmers market, I know several people who sell plants or produce and someone who sells Yak meat but they don’t have a special kitchen or anything.

Not sure if you want to say what state you are in, but....
here's how to add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, (laptop version shown), then it's always there!

Sounds like Idaho is very laid back on the food rules. I live in AZ now, they would let me sell baked goods from a home, non-commercial kitchen. I would have to have an inspected commercial kitchen to sell something like home-canned salsa. We can sell eggs as nest-run up to 750 dozen. More than that would have to be graded and inspected. In California and Washington, where I have lived, you need a license to sell any eggs. I just sold to friends, the illegal egg pusher!
