My sons' kitten was attacked today just after sunset by an opossum (caught it in the act, she was napping on top of the bunny hutch, I suspect it came down the palm tree). It's been dispatched, and the kitten is at the emergency vet, who's keeping her overnight, but she may loose her eye. I was perhaps 20 feet away in the garden. Anyone have any experiance with vision impared cats?

I have two one eyed cats.
They do great. Mine are indoors only but they run, jump, play etc just like my two eyed kitties. ( all my cats are indoors only, my choice for them )
Both single eyed kitties are rescues which were injured prior to my adoption. I fixed them up and gave them forever homes

If you want details of their injuries let me know but I'll forwarn you now that it's pretty graphic

Well she's ok and can see out of her hurt eye, it's been a graduial thing.

$300 vet bill, but she can see and is back to being a snuggler, so it's worth it.

Glad your cat is okay! Wanted to share this story:

Years ago, when my older children were small, I had an old momma cat named Sassy. She was the best momma. However, 6 days after giving birth to a litter of kitten, she disappeared. We searched and searched for her to no avail. I immediately started bottle feeding the kittens which was very time consuming and exhausting. Two weeks later, one of my young sons came running into the house telling me he could hear the momma cat's crys. We started a search and found her, very weak and thin, actually near death in the woods behind our house. She had been snake bitten between the eyes... now both eyes were nothing more than white marbles.

I immediately called the vet who advised me to put her with her kittens. She appeared to have no milk, but the vet told me to let her try to nurse anyway. She really wanted to be with her babies. To make a long story short, she finished raising those babies and had several litters in the following years. She managed fine in the house, maneuvering around furniture and never had a problem finding her food or a lap to lay in. She really hated it though when I re-arranged furniture.

She died of old age many years later and was the best cat I ever had... totally blind!
