This morning I caught three hens attacking a 1-month-old kitten. The kitten seemed okay physically, just traumatized.
I've had chickens for 6 years and have never seen nor heard of this happening before. I know chickens will go after small animals such as mice or snakes, but a kitten is bigger than a mouse. Is this normal?

Yes, it's normal if they feel threatened. They will attack and kill. Remember, they are Raptors as you just found out. I'm glad your kitty is ok but, now
You'll need to keep your kitty away from the chickens.

I have to be careful of my small dogs and young , curious pullets. The pullets are much bigger then the dogs and find it hilarious to chase them.
The older girls pay them no attention at all.

I personally think chickens are capable of recognizing predators even when they are young and helpless, and maybe they thought they would take care of the problem before it was one. Adult cats can definitely defend themselves from chickens if they want to.
