Are there effective over the counter wormers for kittens. We are going to go to Walmart in a bit. My daughter brought a stray home last night and it's got that round wormy look to it. I don't know if we will keep it but at the least I'd like to worm it right away. For now she's got her own box so if there are worms my big kitty doesn't get exposed.

I don't trust any of the animal OTC meds sold at walmart. The reason? Most are made in China and are not to US standards.

I get most of my pet meds. at our local farmer's co-op or feedstore. I have some piperazine (bought at feedstore) in the house right now that I used to treat our two new cats. However it only treats roundworms. I plan to get a broad spectrum wormer from my vet this week.

I'd prefer something from the vet but... It's Sunday and tomorrow hubby and I are catching a plane to Vegas for 4 days. Our daughter works all day Monday. I don't really want this cat. It's cute but aren't all kittens. And oh boy have we ticked off Mr. Fluffy. He is the most loveable kitty I've ever had and I he won't even let you pet him if the kitten smell is on your hands. He hisses and runs off.

Do you have a decent animal shelter in your area?/

Be careful, you do not know if the kitten has FIP,Leukemia or has been exposed to any animal with rabies.

I am speaking having twenty years experience in animal shelters, working with Animal Control Officers, and being in the health field.

If anyone in your family is bitten or scratched, it is best to report said, and have the animal control officer or health do a mandatory (required in most states) two week quarantine. on the cat,

Well the little kitten is just as sweet as pie. Either she got out or she got dumped. She's to clean, healthy, and tame to have spent more than a day outside of a home. And she is very familiar with the litter box. I'm guessing she got dumped. The day before my daughter found her there was a large gathering of birds of prey circling around where she was found. Out here kittens are an easy meal for them.

I wouldn't take her to the shelter as that is guaranteed euthanasia. I'll see how things are when we get back from our trip and then see about finding her a home. If she stays here it's going to be up to my daughter to pay vet expenses.
