On thursday july 5 one of our farm cats Lydia (aka Fatty) was sadly hit in the road. I knew she had had kittens somewhere on the farm but was unsure where since she had a tendency to have them far from the other cats. I searched but never found anything. I had given up hope. Last night, sunday july 8, my husband was out in the field beside our house watering his garden. I went out to talk and pick some grass for the geese. As I'm walking back I hear something that sounds like a kitten but I figure it was just a bird. So I keep walking. I hear it again and head towards the sound. It was coming from the area by DH's permanent ice shanty. I walk over and look down shocked to see I almost stepped right on a pile of little kittens! I started talking to them and they cried even more, I scooped them up, wrapped them into my shirt and yelled to DH. I had found Fatty's missing babies!! Five gorgeous little angels! I took them into the grainery where the rest of the cats live. Well I just happened to have a mama cat, Minnie, with babies about 1 week older than these. I put them in by her with her babies, they were crying up a storm by the point. She sniffed them a bit, started licking them and layed down to nurse!!! So now Minnie has 9 little souls to look after but I have faith in her that she will do just fine! I got her some high protein food today and also some canned food. She will be an extremely pampered kitty! I am in shock still that these babies survived 3 days alone when they are only 2 weeks old! Fatty was a great mama kitty, one of the best hunters I have ever had out here. She will be deeply missed. There are 2 black and white girls, one white with grey tiger boy, one black with white girl, and one who is identical to its mother, grey tiger with white paws boy. I'm going to be monitoring them closely and am prepared with KMR if need be. This is a beautiful miracle!
