Kittens 3 weeks old....(Update - back with Momma 11/08/07)

I skipped at the other posts so sorry if anyone has already said all this:

Feeding- The kittens need to be feed every hour. Go to petsmart or your feed store and get kitten formula and ask someone to help you find the right size bottle and nipple. they do make some small enough because I bought some for newborns before. they will take to the bottle when they're hungry enough.

When feeding, place one kitten at a time on your chest. With the kittens belly on your chest. Place the nipple in the kittens mouth and the kitten will do the rest.

Warmth- You sound like your doing it right. I would keep them indoors from now on. If the momma wants nothing to do with them then your the momma now.

Pees & poops- This is the gross one. Well not that gross. Momma cat makes the babies potty. She licks them in that area until the pee. I've always seen my kittens poop on their own but if they don't then you'll have to stimulate that area too. I've used my finger (I know ewww) but you can use a warm wash cloth.

GOOD LUCK!!!

So, I ended up trying the locking Momma with the babies in a crate for the night (in the house). It worked, so I'm leaving her in the house with the babies for now (probably until they are weaned). I had let her out of the crate this morning and watched her eat and drink. She went right back to them, so maybe a happy ending?

Maybe being away for a little bit kicked those momma hormones into over-drive. Nothing like a build-up of milk to remind momma that she needs to spend time with the little ones!

Yeah!!! Much better for you and them if she will continue to raise them. At least with them in the house if she decides not to take care of them they won't get cold as fast.

They were doing fine, other than momma has moved them under the couch. Then she flakes out because my room-mate's daughter let her the weekend before last, so now she thinks she has to go outside every day. Then you have to call her to come back in the house.

I've been out of town over the weekend, so I shall find out when I get home if they're still okay. I'll try and get a picture of them for ya!
