Klutzy ducks-my Pekins

I completely understand that when you grow as fast as Pekins do, that you're bound to have a hard time figuring out how to balance all that weight and making your legs go where you want them to go but my Pekins crack me up.

Saturday will make 4 wks that I've had my two Pekins and 1 Buff so they're probably about 5 wks old and still "babies". I put them in their house at night. The first 5+ days I had to herd them up the ramp and into their house. Last night they started going up the ramp on their own when I approached their pen. Last night I was surprised and thrilled that they were smart enough to figure out "bedtime". Tonight I watched a little more closely-the Buff is the one that has figured out "bedtime" and the 2 Pekins are just following.
But they don't just follow...they see the Buff leaving them and they run after her and throw themselves over the side of the ramp and SPLAT onto it. And the open part of the ramp is literally 2 inches away. I saw one do that tonight and I laughed so much I had tears running down my cheeks . I'm sitting here picturing it as I'm typing and it's still just as funny...

I have seen one of them trip over a twig.
Please tell me they are this entertaining even after they grow up!

I am seriously thinking of naming them Tweedledee and Tweedledum

So I have two Pekins
They are so smart and so dumb
Daffy fell off his shelf onto his back and got stuck
I have had to remove anything in the cage with a height dif or step
They just can't handle it
If they don't fall off they trip
I just cut out the problem and stopped trying with the ramps
They just kept looking at me like it was my fault

My pekin sounds like a moose in the bathtub. All you hear is thump thump thump and she isn't that big yet. She makes me laugh. She would prefer not to walk. She even eats laying down. The other ducks were picking at her so she is in the brooder with the chicks and very comfortable. In order to get her moving I put the food and water on opposite sides so she has to move. She is a very sweet girl.

Oh I know that look-animals and kids have perfected that look!
Now when it comes to food one of my Pekins is extremely smart- she knows that my whistle means treats and is the first one to waddle to the gate. (we need a waddling duck emoji)

Mine are sometimes sweet and they don't mind walking-usually away from me unless I have treats. I love the klutzy aspect to them-makes them more endearing-I just wasn't expecting it

Daffy came up last night crawled In my arms and just layed and now we are getting to a point they don't like being put up when everyone else is out
So when it's bedtime they assume they get to come too
They have found a way to stretch out just enough to peak over the end of my bed and beep at me
However there was a feather in my hair this morning so that was pretty cute

The other two are khakis. I do want one more female pekin as a companion for Sunny. She needs a friend

Love the pics- sweet babies! How old are they?

It's not at all stupid that they are important to you! Sounds about right to me. Every critter that lives here is a pet and companion...I get attached to them, learn their personalities, love them and it hurts when it's time to let one go!! They aren't "just" animals to me and yours are still in the house, which is basically the same thing as having a cat or dog in the house, so they are obviously bonded to you and you to them.

That is adorable that they stretch out to look for you and beep at you. Are they going to stay in the house permanently or will you eventually move them outside?

What kind of pen do you have them in? I got a little bit of a glimpse in the pics so I saw just enough that I'm curious-I'm always interested in new ideas!
