Evening ALL,
I know this topic has been brought up before but I have not seen an answer to my question of knocking out an initial fly infestation with a spray.
We have a large backyard that has many oak trees. Last year we tried to compost all we could but still had a bunch of leave left that we had to get hauled away for mulch. Was a real pain and time consuming.
This year we just left the leaves to see if we could let them naturally decompose. That being said we are in Texas and it is VERY dry so there is not much decomposing going on and not a lick of moisture in the leaves (I only am relaying this in that since there is no moisture in the leave we do not see any maggots from the flies).
In past years the flies have always been around but this year, since we just started our first coop, they are at an infestation level,
We have set a couple of those 2ft tall cyndrical fly traps out as well as a couple of those stinky water based traps out and they are filled in a day or two.
You can just see hundreds and hundreds of flies crawling on the leaves. Little suckers bite like the dickins too!!!
Interesting point is that we cannot see check ANY place where there are maggots. We keep everything very clean. It like they breed somewhere else but hang in our yard.
Is there any non-toxic fly spray we could put in a large sprayer and knock the flies out without hamming our chickens who also frequent the backyard when we let them out daily?
I have read a solution of (from a website)
"6 caps full of Skin so Soft
1 cup white vinegar
just a good squirt of Ivory liquid soap"
knocks then right down and kills them but I want to make sure the solution is not harmful the chickens as they scratch and peck in the same grass/dirt/leaf litter area.
