Looking for information on chickens allowed in Knox Co. , Illinois.
Is there a limit! And are you allowed roosters? If so, is there a limit?
 
SEC. 6-1-9: Restrictions on the Keeping of Livestock (added 5-21-2018)



Except as provided in subparagraphs (B) and (C) of this Section, no livestock shall be kept within the City of Knoxville on any parcel of land which is smaller than five acres in size.



A maximum of five female chickens (hens) may be kept on any one parcel within the City, provided that all of the following conditions are met:



No roosters are kept on the parcel;



The chickens are, at all times, housed in a coop or similar dedicated enclosure, and are not housed in a garage, porch, house or building intended for human habitation. The coop or dedicated enclosure may include a run, but if a run is included, it shall be no larger than 10 by 10 feet, and it shall be securely attached to the coop or dedicated enclosure in a manner that prevents cats, dogs, or wild animals from gaining entry. The coop or dedicated enclosure, along with its runs, must be located in the backyard of any residential property;



The owner of the parcel maintains the poultry operation in such a fashion as to discourage the harboring, or attraction of, rodents, maggots, flies and vermin. Waste, including feed and manure and waste eggs, shall be disposed of it in a sanitary manner.



On parcels less than five acres of size, a maximum of five rabbits may be kept. Rabbits may be housed within a residence or within a hutch located in the backyard of a residence. Any hutch shall be securely designed to prevent cats, dogs, or wild animals from gaining entry, and the hutch shall be maintained in such as fashion as to discourage the harboring, or attraction of, rodents, maggots, flies and vermin.



The restrictions set forth in this Section with respect to the keeping of livestock (including chickens and rabbits) are in addition to all other restrictions set forth in the Knoxville City Code, including, but not limited to, all restrictions set forth in Section 6-1-2 of the Knoxville City Code.
