Squeak and Pip are 2 months old now and have always freaked out at any sign I'm going to touch them. Once I read about 'less is more' on here I've made no attempts to touch them, as disappointing as it is for me. Yet in some ways our bond has gotten stronger. We all hang out on the lawn from late afternoon until it's almost dark with them always following me around. They don't run screaming at sudden movements anymore, look to me if something is new and they're unsure, and run towards me at the sound of loud noise. Tonight they started coming up to me and gently nibbling on my arms and I've read it's their way of showing they trust me and consider me part of the flock.

Happy day happy day!!! A Kodak moment for me that only other duck lover's could appreciate so what better place to share it then here...

how sweet!! i can only imagine how tickled you are =) that would've just made my day! do you still raise others as well, and were those two raised the same time?

cute cute cute. with my first ducks I tried handling them a lot to get them used to it, but found out with later ducks that it works best when I just let them sit with me, and do their own thing. My runner ended up sleeping in my hoodie!

How sweet that they follow you around the yard. Glad to know there's hope!

Mine are 9 weeks old tomorrow, and are starting to gain some courage. The most recent development is they'll come out and eat and swim for me as long as
  1. I'm on the other side of the fence.
  2. I'm sitting down in the chair.
  3. I don't move.
  4. I have to sing to them first.

If any part of the equation is wrong, they flip me the tail and laugh all the way back to the bushes.

I mentally check marked off that same list-except laughed when I got to # 4.

If I sang to my ducks they would run away. FAST. And NEVER come near me again. Their little ears would probably bleed. I really cannot sing. Although, it never stops me when I am alone or in the car!

Great report!!!!

It just makes the heart melt for ducks to tell one they care. It's a treat when one stands on my foot.

Love Tahai's list!!!!

I don't really sing an actual song, however when I call to my Swede I say "OH BLUUUUEEE Bellleeeee." in a sing song way which she immediately perks up at and waits for breakfast. :)

Bedtime lullabies for your babes perhaps?

I hope someday to have one standing on my foot. I am content with the progress we've made though. To look up and see one laying less then a foot away from me or foraging right next to my hand is as wonderful as the fact they don't run away shrieking when I move my head to look up or slowly get to my feet.

The ducklings really remind me of how my cats react when I sing. I stopped singing to the ducklings so they didn't run away. With the cats though the look of disdain is so funny I sing even more. Usually, they leave the room in search of quieter surroundings. My dog on the other hand doesn't care how bad I sound which is good considering how much time she's spent riding in the car with me.

Your list had me laughing. Mine spent their first month with me indoors living in an extra-jumbo small animal pet cage. I sang to them, talked to them, sat with them, fed and watered them and they still treated my hand as if it was the hand of doom. Outside, my list is a little bit better then yours. I didn't have to be on the other side of the fence. At first I had to either be sitting in my chair or on the ground. A movement as tiny as lifting my water to drink had them running back towards the safety of their butterfly bush. (The bush once belonged to me. So did the catmint they turned into a daytime nest.) Once they were outdoors the looks they gave me when I sang to them looked an awful lot like my cats expressions when I sing indoors so I stopped singing and talk to them instead. If I say their names and shake a bag they'll come a running as fast as they can waddle since the bag might contain peas or grapes.

These two are my first ducklings and yes they are supposed to be the same age.
