Kudos to Ideal

Kristi,
I think ideally first to black & maybe later to white. I have a beautiful black hen from Bobbi Porto that I'm hoping will still be laying as well as she is in another 7-8 months. Whoever's born will have the lavender gene, and so on...There's a great website that I don't have a link for at the moment (am about to get the kids to bed or I'd track it down) for Fawkes' Feather Silkies. They have worked very hard on the lavender silkies. Anyway, she has crossed both to black & white from what I understand. If you do a BYC search for lavender silkies that discussion & my link to her site should come up. I wish you were here to split an order!

lunchlady, please post pics of your lavender chicks when you get them! I will try when i get pics of mine when they arrive, but i have dialup and my images wont load to photobucket:( Keep us posted!

I'll really try to learn how to post pics, Silkieluver, but I've been a devoted member since August & haven't yet succeeded in posting. Sadly, no peeps arrived today, but I think I may have been overly optimistic in hoping they'd make it in a day. Normally, when I order older birds, they get here within a day but that's via Express mail. Anyway, new brooder is set up for tomorrow & I've got my fingers crossed that I'll have lots of live cuties to pick up at the PO.

Please keep me posted on your end too!

I have an order shipping from Ideal on 3/19.
I ordered a couple of the Red Silkies and a couple of the Buff Silkies
I also ordered a dozen of the Easter chicks. Just cuz my mommy always told me NO when I was a kid! I ordered the straight run, so will be adding the pullets to my layers and the roos will go to my boss, since they will be either broilers or BO's

My order arrived this AM & all but one survived, though I think they included an extra of that same breed (blue mille fleur d'uccle), so I'm exactly where I should be count wise. Overall, I'm impressed with the lavender silkies. You hear negative "hatchery" feedback all the time & after a while it starts to really sink in that anything from a hatchery will necessarily be not as good. In this case, I was just happy to get the lav gene to work with, so I was willing to take whatever might be carrying it. I'm happy to report that there's only 1 4-toed silkie - all the others have 5 toes, black skin, & several resemble the silkies I've hatched from well-known breeders. Of course, time will tell how they actually turn out.

Anyway, count me as a happy Ideal customer (for the second time). It's unlikely that I'll have a chance to get pics up today, but I promise to try tomorrow (DD is home sick today AND I have a work-related deadline hanging over me).
