La Manchas, Pygmy or what?

I love my mini-manchas. They are much smaller than standard lamanchas, but still have the tiny ears and great personality. I think they are a perfect combo.

I love my LaMancha boys! But "little helpers" is certainly an understatement. They always want to be doing what I'm doing.
Here is Durin playing on the goatie picnic table. That's my darling Isobelle the Boer cross watching. Sorry for the blur....my camera doesn't do well with speed.

I have learned that it's not the breed that makes the goat.. it's the personality of each goat. I have Nigerians, Alpines and Nubians... they are ALL very sweet and love to have my attention (demanding it actually). They will put their heads in my lap (well, the Nigis put their whole bodies on my lap!

) or push their head under my hand for a petting.

Whereas ksacres' Nubians are apparently more aloof.. mine are always in front of me wanting to be petted and loved on. I think it's just the different goat and to some extent the way they are raised but I also have learned that a goat can be just as loving and friendly if it wasn't bottle raised as long as it had lots of people interaction growing up.

It does seem that wethers almost always have very sweet, outgoing personalities so they make excellent family pets/members.

After doing your research you need to decide which size goat you want then get that size. You will love your Pygmy or LaManchas. You may want to seriously consider a Mini Mancha... a little of both with the middle size range.

Good luck with your decision making.

I looked up the mini la manchas goats but not sure of the size. Are they the same size as the pygmy goats? When I decide on the breed of goat, should I spend the extra money and buy a registered goat?

Ok, I'm going to throw a wrench in the works

Have you seen Tennessee fainting goats? I have a bunch, and like multiple people have said, it depends on how they are raised. All my goats are very friendly, from the boer crosses to the fainters... All have different personalities, but all are very playful and funny. The fainting goats do fall over, and it can take some getting used to, but it's a great conversation starter

Ours would faint when the geese would honk at the old house, and they will get all excited about getting treats, and down they go! The fainters are a medium goat - not large like a nubian or boer, but not tiny like a pygmy. Just thought I'd share my experiences with you! here's a pic of My doe, Mars

i have two mini-manchas, a la mancha, and a sanaan. hands down we like the la mancha MUCH better - and of our two mini-manchas the one that is more 'lamancha-like' is much much more likable. honestly i'm thinking of getting rid of the more Nigerian one b/c we do not like her personality AT ALL.

why we like the la manchas:

* more reserved / laid back
* less likely to hop over the fence and demolish everything
* more quiet
* better behaved
* excellent milkers with good milk fat

our full sized lamancha isnt as big as the sanaan but bigger than the minimanchas.

Milking breeds tend to have softer personalities than some of the meat breeds. They are just easier to handle. Pygmys can escape from anything, so be prepared for that.
I like nubians and nigis myself.

How much milk do you guys get from your mini manchas compared to the full sized manchas daily?
