This chicken coop thing is just about to wear me out. My old brain is in a state of strain. More like exhaustion. The way I've planned the thing is causing me to have nightmares. But a question I've been wondering about. I'm going to have a door in the floor for the hens to go out under to coop, and one in the front to exit into the run. In relation with the inside door, how for from the door roost ladder need to be? I was reading in another post about the distance from the wall the ladder needs to be. I sure would hate for a chicken to miss the ladder and do out the floor door. I think I would have a dead chicken, and I don't want that.

Remember, I'm a retired ironworker and carpentry is a new game with me. I can't weld it or grind it, so things are so different. And cutting these birdmouths for the roof rafters are just wearing my into a mussy mess.

There is no rule as to where things inside the coop need to be except don't nest under the roost without a umbrella.

Is it needed to have 2 exit doors? Maybe set up the the floor exit but leave it closed and if it's needed them open it. Otherwise I would put the floor hole under the ladder so the birds cann walk up to the ladder and use it but have to walk around the ladder base and behind it to access the floor exit.

I agree...two doors is too much work!

they will be happy with one enterence/exit door and I would tend to lean towards not having a floor door. It might make cleaning out the coop much easier too.
