Ladder Perches

No need to build it ladder style just build one lower then the other build the top longer then the bottom because chickens always roost on something that is at the highest point off the ground so if you run the bottom one 3'x 2' and then you build the top one 4' x 4' they will all roost on that one just use 2x4's layed flat. good luck with that....

That and by design it seems it would be harder to clean under them.

Is there a reason for the ladder style roosts? Lack of room, etc? If not, consider using a droppings board and a couple of longer roosts above it. Here are pic's of mine

Droppings boards make is so much easier to clean, and they don't get poop on themselves from the girls higher up on the ladder:p

I do have two roosts, one about 12 inches lower than the other and 12 inches in from the top as well. I haven't had squabbling over who gets the higher roost, mainly because there is enough room for all my girls on the top roost, but usually 2 or three will decide to roost on the lower one each night. I've raised my lower roost up so it is now about 10 inches from the droppings board.

I use an old ladder I found in an old barn. Works great. But I just have it parelle with the floor 5 ft. up. I also found a wooden step ladder that one side was kind of broke and I proped it up against the wall and they are mostly at the top.

I have one and at first they used it...but I put more roost as I had chickens fighting for space....NOW with the new roosts...NOBODY uses the ladder....lol

ladder back ground right
and the new roost are the branches in front above the coop, and it looks out into the yard....
