This is Lady Bird (she's my sweetest, most friendly, lovable girl). We have 4 pullets. All hatched May 1st. She'll be 23 weeks this week. The other three started laying over the past few weeks. We're in her 23rd week now, why isn't she laying yet? Is she close? She doesn't even seem interested in the nesting boxes. Are there chickens that just don't lay eggs? Maybe I need to have more patience, she'll lay when she's ready, right?

@sourland oh that's good to hear. I've got two EEs that are 21 weeks and neither has started laying yet, I was starting to get worried. I couldn't tell if they were just slow starters, or if they weren't going to lay at all this year since the seasons have changed now, or if I should get them checked out by their vet :p.

When I have late starters I like to give them “the talk” and tell them that if they don’t lay soon they are going to be soup. I repeat this message every night when I tuck them in until they finally start laying. Then I go about trying to convince myself that this actually did anything to help hurry up the process of maturing.

I tell her every day to lay her egg. I show her the boxes...she couldn't be less interested. Oh well, she'll lay when she's ready. I guess I'll just have to wait...sigh.

Try and get her interested in the boxes, don't worry, she will lay, probably within the next month. Hoping she gets to that point soon! Some breeds lay later than others.

She finally laid today!!! Now at 27 weeks old! I'm so proud of her! It's a really unique egg too, it's like a dark purple-ish brown/green with a matte finish. It's really cool! So now with our four girls we have a light green, light blue, dark brown, and Lady Bird's I guess I'll call it 'puce' colored egg?

YAY! Good bird! So happy that she has accomplished this! :celebrate Beautiful eggs, thank you for updating us.

Lovely egg! :clap:wootBut I’d call it more Olive than puce- just because “puce” is one of those words that just rubs my ears the wrong way, like “moist “ is for some people😆😆
