Lady feeding raptors - law on my side?

I have spoken to the owners, I've made them aware of this. They told me they needed to buy her falconer gloves so she did not injure herself on their property. So, lo and behold... she now has gloves!

They do not seem to mind her doing this, of course they don't have chickens - instead they just have geese and horses...
Speaking of geese, I have heard that geese will deter birds of prey. I have not yet seen evidence of this myself, my geese are still to young to defend anyone, but it might be something to look into.

Goodness me........what a big halabaloo you are making over nothing. Thank goodness I dont have a neighbour like you.
Do you honestly think that the hawks would not know your chickens were there unless "called in" by your neighbour?
The only person you are upsetting is you.
Next time the horse lady comes, look the other way, pretend she is not there and I guarantee you will notice no difference to you or your chickens life. And talking about life, you may want to get one.

Cheers........The Dog

I don't think personally I would consider the loss of half my flock nothing, though. Besides the fact that the hawks are killing the OP's chickens, this lady is doing harm to the birds of prey also, by teaching them not only to depend on people for food, but to not fear people. The OP doesn't want to kill the raptors, but that doesn't mean no one else would be willing to take advantage of a bird who is not properly frightened of people. I free-range my birds, and I know in doing so I will have some losses to wild predators. But you can bet your booty I would be very cranky about a neighbor foolishly feeding those wild predators and causing a more than normal concentration of them. And I would be well within my rights to feel that way, as I am well within my rights to free-range my birds.

that is FANTASTIC to hear. Glad someone on that property has common since ;)

Today as I was riding down the dirt road on my tractor, my neighbor stopped me. He apologized that the lady was rude to me and told me she was crazy. He also said he is going to encourage her not to do anything, but that if I need to talk with her and be stern I may do so. We shook on it, I'm glad we can still make verbal handshake contracts down here on these dirt roads!

I also told him all the various solutions I had available at my disposal and he said he would help me with them if the lady does not quit feeding the birds. Now I have diplomatic and financial (since she boards at his place) strings to pull.

Best thing is that I was praying on the way up the road I would get some resolution of this situation, and lo and behold on the way back down the road The Lord answered my prayer and my neighbor came to talk with me!

Sheesh, I board horses and if ANY of my boarders were feeding wild animals they would receive a warning and if they continued they would get the boot. First, I wouldn't want other predators coming (such as possum who carry EPM to horses).

Here is what i would do take a pic of a dead hawk to her and say you feeding them is causing them to kill my chickens and when they kill my chickens i kill them. Is that what you want?

Then you can pay a hefty fine and mabe even go to jail or both, is that what you want?
Never incriminate yourself like that some folks like getting other folks into trouble.

no you are allowd to catch or kill it but it hase to be in the act of killing the chicken and you must have evidence of this happening. or at least thats what i have ben told

I'm sorry but you have been told some false information. Dainerra is correct unless you have gotten a special permit you have no legal right to harm any raptor.
