Is this possible? My girls are brand new layers, well, I got one egg 2 days ago, and that was it). Went to let them out/clean the coop, and an egg is on the floor. I watched the camera and it wasn't there in the video taken 4 minutes prior. The girls were all still up on the roost bar. Will this be a common occurrence?

We call those “floor eggs.” It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes I guess it does 😂
I wouldn’t be worried unless that happens EVERY dang night!
Also they are brand new, you said, and there are always flukes in “the system” early on. One of mine layed an egg with no shell, just membrane haha

It is not uncommon for a pullet to drop an egg off the roost at night. She wasn't sleeping when she did it. Chickens do not sleep all night like mammals do.
I have hens that occasionally drop one off the roost.
Thanks! I was just so surprised to see it out there, and then to see that she didn't come off the roost to do it. I know they don't sleep all night, but I just figured she would have come down to lay it if she was awake...LOL!

Not in the dark. They stay put in the dark.
