What I wonder is how he got start up money... was he able to get business loans? Bakery equipment is extremely expensive and here in the US baking and food manufacture is very regulated.

This happened in Ireland. From the article linked in my original post:

"After the government's recent launch of a campaign to encourage the unemployed to start new businesses, it's safe to say Irish officials hope more people will take Stenson's cue."
 
The guy has done well. The government gives 15,000 euros and puts them through 6 months of training.

I like the guy for his entrepreneurial spirit reminds me of my business beginning.

I like the idea that they screen people based on thier abilities and not by color, age etc. to qualify for the program.
