Lake City Poultry Show-

I will be there. I doubt I'll have anything to sell, but will be looking for some more chicks/pullets.

I am especially interested in finding Polish hens (and 1 roo) and some nice Buff Orpingtons.

Meanwhile, if anyone knows of some locally, please PM me.

Maybe we will go.

Since I am a total newbie, can anyone fill me in on what to expect at the poultry show? Is it worth a drive of a couple of hours?

Can I buy baby chicks there and can I know I am getting pullets? Are there breeders there or what?

Sorry to be clueless, but I can't help it.

Would buying chicks there be a better deal in any way than ordering from a hatchery.

Tell me all there is to know.

Thanks

It would be very rare that you would find chicks at a poultry show, at least I have never seen them.
This is an exhibition poultry show so you would expect to find predominantly pure bred poultry and waterfowl. Mostly breeders, but there will be some pet quality birds there.
You will also see suppliers selling every thing you will need ( and don't need) to raise poultry. I also figure there will be at least one vendor there selling poultry books and magazines- many 100 years old.

Oh yeah there will also be about 2500-3000 birds there of most every kind being shown by 300 of your closest friends.

Worth a 2 hour drive to see the ABA Nationals? There will be people there from all over the USA. I will be driving 1000 miles - so I would vote yes, don't miss it.

Thanks. That helps. I didn't know people drove so far for it. Told you I was clueless, but I am learning.

I just wanted to make sure that you didn't miss one of the biggest poultry shows of the year when it is basiclly in your backyard ( as far as poultry shows go). I hope you go and take it all in.

Ooooh, maybe I mistook the Poultry SHOW for a swap meet. Sorry, I am new to this bird thing, too. Me thinketh my noob-ness is showing...

I was planning on buying birds while there. It still sounds like it's worth the 1½ hour drive.

We'll be going.

Curious. How do you enter this year? Do you have to have won a previous show?

What are the prizes?

I don't plan on showing this time or anything, but just curious.
