DO NOT BUY FROM FEATHER YOUR NEST!

I purchased 2 Silkies from this place in spite of the fact that it was filthy and there was no food in any of the cages. I should have listened to my inner voice because I was stupid to buy from her and we became very attached to the two pullets.

To make a long story short, one of them lost all use of her legs one day. Her symptoms were initially much like Marek's Disease so I called the breeder and asked if they had any outbreaks or if they had vaccinated. She said she didn't know what that was! My excuse was that I was new to the hobby but what was her excuse?

A visit to an Avian Veterinary Specialist and x-rays revealed a congenital deformity in her spine in 3 places. The vet said, it was caused by a nutritional deficiency in the hen that laid her egg. (Flashback to empty feeders.) I purchased in December and had to put down our sweet pet in April. Another call to this woman resulted in, "you'll have to talk to my husband".

I waited until today to talk to them so I could keep the emotion out of the conversation. I very politely reminded her of who I was and what happened, expecting them to at least pretend to be sorry for our loss. Perhaps it was a fluke and they might offer to try and make it right somehow. All she could say is "we don't have Silkies" and hung up on me.

She advertises on craigslist but has stopped using her "Feather your nest" name (I’m guessing because there is another complaint about her on there), so if someone tells you they're located at 8404 Gibson Oaks Dr., Lakeland or use 863-213-4565 or 863-614-8264,.....DON'T DO IT!

I have learned my lesson. Only buy from someone that is NPIP certified that vaccinates.

BEWARE OF THIS WOMAN AND HER SMELLY TRAILER OPERATION.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. I understand exactly how that feels.

With our first entry into getting chicks we made the mistake of getting 7 chicks off a Craigslist ad, the place was a residence with living conditions similar to what you are describing. I didn't feel good about getting them from such a dirty place and should have listened to my head, not my heart. Within 2 weeks, 4 of the 7 were dead. 3 of them went quickly, the 4th died a slow horrible death right in my hands. That's a terrible thing to go through, maybe especially to someone getting poultry for the first time.

I agree with you, only buy from reputable, NPIP certified people.

I'm so sorry for your losses

Thank you for that. My momma taught me if you don't have anything nice to say....
but after her behavior on the phone today, I had to assume she knew exactly what was going on the whole time and I didn't even mention the $140 vet bill to her! We get very attached to our animals and I don't want anyone else to get burned by this place.
