Whatever; I actually don't know what they made it out of in Guardians of Ga'hoole so I just assumed that it was gold plus some other metals. Besides this is Lakia so if a gryphon can exist gold masks can be stronger than usual

"Pacu, we should probably get going on gathering supplies. We don't have too much time if we want to get there at midnight. We also may need an ally to help us get out in case something goes haywire and we need to abort the mission." Thistles said to Pacu.

In the movie it's probably a bit gold mixed with a stronger metal(iron or something like that). It could be just the moviemaker's ignorance. In the books it's iron. This really doesn't matter, though.
