Reid listened carefully and waited until Otto and the children had left. Then he slunk under the wall and emerged into the prison call beside Jack.

By this time, Jack had regained conciousness. He looked at Reid, slightly surprised, but nodded in understanding as Reid placed his front paws on Jack.

"I don't even follow Lark." She growled back. "Listen, Sara, face the reality. Lakia's not this promised land that you think it is. Its Lakia and its citizens that are weak-minded and insecure. The strong like me and the smokewolf will triumph, the broken like you are put out of their misery. I realized this a day or so after I met the smokewolf."

Sara shook her head stubbornly "As long as we are around, you will not triumph. You, the Smokewolf or any of your weak-minded friends."

The metal screeched loudly. The smokewolf wasn't far, and perked his ears around as he heard it. "Children come." It ordered.
