The ice seemed endless and Maria was about to turn back when Evander nudged her and pointed into the distance where the looming shape of the mountains could be seen "We can shelter there!" He shouted over the roaring wind.

Maria nodded wordless and followed, the heavy wind threatening to knock her off her feet and driving snow under her fur.
 
The mountains were farther away then they looked and it took hours of pushing through heavy snow to reach them. Maria flopped down in the back of a small cave, her paws frozen and caked with frozen snow. Evander wasn't much better, both were freezing.
 
Valasca sarcastically replied "Let me out of these chains and I'll show you exactly how much I love you
