The light birds dropped like stones, just out of reach of his claws. Suddenly, a huge updraft caught his wings, throwing him up and away from them.

The powerful updraft carried them higher, even with their wings shut. Cross winds sliced through the air, slamming them from side to side and keeping them off course. The birds had disappeared from view.
