Hello all! I have an older chicken. Her name is big mama. She is six years old and a couple of years ago had a break to her foot that didn’t heal properly. She now barely moves around. She stands up on one leg and kind of pivots. I mean she does move some. She is eating well and drinking well. However, my heart is breaking for her. There is nothing that can be done medically. Any suggestions ideas all are welcome. Please do not be cruel. Thanks for any help.

Does she get picked on by the other chickens or is she separated? Do you have any pictures of her or her leg? Does she ever have other problems, such as reproductive problems, crop issues, or an enlarged lower abdomen below her vent? Does she have issues getting to her food and water? It may be difficult to help her leg this far from her injury. Splinting can help if done early, but once it heals crooked, it is usually permanent. Chicken slings can be helpful to disabled chickens helping them to be up and near food and water. Some people make homemade wheelchairs for lame chickens. I’m attaching a link for chicken slings, and there are wheelchair ideas too:

Thank you! She seems to fine except the mobility issue. She isn’t getting picked on. She mothers the other two. However I do have her in a pin in the coop now to make she gets food and water.
