Lame chicken not bumblefoot

Hello. My 1 year old isa brown is limping. Her left leg is not holding her weight. The “toes” splay out and she walks like she has foot drop (a condition in humans with spine issues). I palpated the leg and foot to see if I could feel something unusual. She has no apparent injury to the leg and foot. She is eating and drinking just fine. Any ideas?

Give her a 81 grain chewable aspirin twice a day and see if that helps. If it's a simple strain, it should improve the limping.

Lameness is so hard to figure out. I have one eight-year old Welsummer at present who limps, and has an overall fluffed appearance most of the time. It;s obvious she's in pain, but this has been going on for months, and has not improved in the slightest in spite of aspirin and even a current round of Penicillin.

Hi @Carolrich - any updates on your hen? I am dealing with the same situation and wanted to see if your girl improved. My favorite hen has limped on and off since January. I thought it was mareks, but after much research and discussions with others, it was determined is was not mareks.

I hope she improved.

Im dealing with an issue that could be a tendon problem in her hock. We are making a chicken seat/sling. keep her off of it for a bit to see if that helps it heal. Hope yours is doing better
