One of my hens went suddenly lame about 5 days ago, on her left leg. She can lift the leg to scratch her wattles, but cannot wear bear on it. I can see no obvious injury or swelling, and it is not involving the foot pad in any way so definitely not bumblefoot. She is very very lame and is needing help on and off the night roost and isn't as active as usual, so it clearly hurts. She is very much herself however, eating well and still top of the pecking order and bossing everyone about as usual!

I am planning to take her to the vet tomorrow and have it x-rayed, but any ideas in the meantime? Ligament or tendon damage perhaps? I think she may have been chasing insects at dusk when she did it.

Did you take her to the vet?

She appears to be getting better - must have pulled something! Walking almost completely normally now. Naturally just as she is due for her vet appt [IMG]
