The rest of this post I wrote yesterday. Today Rosie's foot pad is slightly swollen and warm. I didn't see any sign of cut or lesion.

My Buff Orpington, Rosie, about 10 months old, started laying in December and has given us about an egg a day since. Last week she started to get broody, even though I remove the eggs from the nest right away. She stopped laying 3 days ago and was in full brood mode so I removed her from the nest box and let the girls free range all day instead of just the few hours I usually let them. She still has full access to the pen and her food and water, which she is eating and drinking fine. This morning she seemed to be breaking the broodiness and was happy to just be a chicken again while free ranging. I checked on her about an hour after letting her out and she was limping. I was in earshot of where she was scratching the whole time so I don't think any predator got her. I checked her toes and legs and found nothing swollen or injured.
I'm assuming she jumped or flew and just landed wrong but I didn't know if this might be a symptom of something else.
My other chicken is fine.

The girls get Purina Layena crumbles and veggies and a little whole grain bread for a snack.
They were vaccinated for Marek's by the breeder.

I know this seems like a lot of possibly irrelevant info (and I might just be over cautious) but I just wanted to give all the info so I could get informed opinions on Rosie's lameness and possible remedies.

Thanks!

Kathy

PS- The girls have weathered a hurricane and a blizzard over the last few month so they're pretty tough. LOL

She probably just flew and landed wrong like you already suggested. One time one of my Roos attacked me and I kicked it, I did not kick it hard it just landed wrong on the recovery flight. He limped for a month then he was fine. Hope this helps and that she gets better.
