Lame hen..is she doomed?

wishing I had video taped the euthanasia since I could not find any instruction on where to place an IP injection on a chicken. I thought about it, but I was afraid it would go badly and then it would be on tape for everyone to see how bad it was. If I ever have to do it again (I pray not) then I will tape it for others who may end up in that situation. Especially since she was so thin, it was hard to find a spot where I didn't hit any bones or major organs.

It is a controlled substance...you must have a prescription, it can be abused by people since it is a narcotic and that is why I am certain that you will not be able to get it unless you are super good friends with a veterinarian (who is willing to put his license on the line). and i am not sure if it comes in a smaller quantity than 100mls (which is enough to euthanize 200 birds)

You can buy it in pill form online. I meant from some of the overseas pharmacies, not the US. I just wish there was a relatively peaceful way to put chickens down vs gunshot or cutting their head off. Some of us are not built for the violence aspect of stuff like that. Blood and gore doesn't bother me, it's looking an animal in the eye and violently killing it vs a simple injection where they fall asleep.

We had a Leghorn about that age do the same thing. We fretted worried brought her in and expected the worst. In the end I think she just had hurt her leg somehow. She stayed off it for a while and got better over a couple weeks. Lime you or me if we hurt our knee it takes some rest and stay off it a while. Hopefully that's all it is with yours to.

I hear ya, I can't kill my pets like that. the decision is hard enough. hmm..pill form that would be cool. I was thinking about that with Indy cause I have a some valium like stuff, but I wasn't sure that would work. I almost tried it cause I figured if anything it would relax her.
