Hi, My 6 month old, Pekin drake, Huey is now lame.
His bumble foot scabs all came off and the new tissue looks great. About 1 week ago, he fell off the platform, (about 3ft), to his night box. He fell 2 x in 1 week. He was limping, but is now flapping his wings and dragging his body a few feet. I have Iet him rest and kept all the ducks in the pen so he was not lonely while he rested the past 2 days. I put food/ water near him and he eats/drinks well. I have been lifting him in and out of the night box. I put extra brewer's yeast in his food. I give him yummies like peas and corn and he's happy. His stools have been black for quite some time.
I hate seeing him like this. I think tomorrow, I will put a dog crate in the pen and keep him in smaller confines. The other ducks were trying to pull out his feathers.
Questions:
1. Is there anything else to do other than let him rest and see what happens?
2. How long do I let him rest to see if he will recover before thinking about relieving his suffering?
Thanks for any thoughts!
Denise
