hi All,
I need help, my 1 year old Female Pekin stop using her back legs. She can still bend them but for some reason she is not standing. We had a hard freeze last night and this morning she was fine. BUT this afternoon she was shaking and breathing heavy. We placed her in warm water and she didn’t use her legs to swim. We are keeping her in the tub tonight with blankets bc it’s another hard freeze. Can anyone give me any help?
UPDATE: as of 8:15pm she is walking with a wobble and is laying down with her feet under her belly!!!

Poor baby! Are those dark spots on her feet dirt or injuries? Can you tell at all?

I would put some sort of antiseptic spray on them or ointment based on what you have available to you. If those are injuries, you definitely don’t want them infected as Pekins are already more likely to get bumblefoot because of their size. I know almost all of the members in the US are dealing with the extreme cold!:hugs

Edited to fix my terrible grammar.

Cold can be very hard on the legs for ducks if they bang them or climb in and out/up or down at all... keep her inside and give her warm epsom salt soaks, that will help ease the soreness and hydrotherapy is the best help for ducks... might want to look into giving her a supplement too, just to be safe... Vitamin B Complex crushed and dissolved into her water, 100-150mg (go by Niacin amount) per gallon of water made fresh daily...

Thank you all, as of 2:20am Friday morning (had to pee lol) she quacked at me, she pooped 3x and was walking better. When I get up at 5am I will see if she will eat & drink.

I washed her feet but it was dried up dirt or poop. Her feet looked good

5am update-she is normal again- quacking, walking, eating, drinking and grooming herself!!! Once the sun is up, she will go back to the flock. In the pics I removed the towels bc she pooped more so had to clean. 4D6CD604-5049-44C7-BE4D-3A3BECFACBCA.jpeg C18A463F-E2C0-4FA4-ACB9-9EE991053FB1.jpeg DE34BFA4-1244-4516-9A6B-52BC61765026.jpeg AD20AEE9-F2B8-49E5-9420-48C8ACA06683.jpeg BFD71B8A-0B22-4233-817C-D301B554B632.jpeg

I hope she is doing better this morning! If you think the cold might be a little rough on them, put some extra straw out for them to snuggle into. If nothing else, it gives them a reason to get up and noodle around.

I loaded them up with hay last weekend bc I knew the cold was coming to FL. My man thinks maybe one of the Drake’s was ruff with her. I’m just glad she is better
