My runner duck drake was sitting by himself yesterday when we went to get him in as we put them away during the night he couldn’t walk on one leg. I did a thorough check on this leg and there are no foreign objects , swelling , bumblefoot or signs of a dislocation or sprain. They are on a diet of mixed corn and layers pellets. He is 4/5 and hasn’t had any health issues before. The other leg is fine and he can shuffle about to get food and water which I have placed nearby him. As seen on the internet I have kept him in and will keep him in until I see signs of improvement. There are 2 other drakes he is usually housed with and along with the hens they all get along fine and don’t fight. I did see that his excrement was a bit watery but this was only once yesterday apart from that I haven’t seen any excrement. As soon as I pick him up and go to place him down he just flops to his weakest leg as he can’t put any pressure at all on it
and once he’s sitting down he is visibly lent more over on his strong side to relieve pressure on his weak leg.
can’t bear to see my Dixie like this he is such a wonderful bird and my only crested duck he’s a firm favourite! I have read to give him poultry vitamins or baby aspirin but I thought I’d ask here first to see if anyone else has experienced this
