HOw would I be able to get eggs to hatch or chicks for this project? I am interested in this breed.
We do not sell eggs , started birds and adult trios are sold first come first serve , best way to currently reach us is facebook : two fat guys poultry
Greenfire Farms is the biggest name in Lamonas. Or you could buy on EBay like I did, and probably not know which line they came from. If you want to wait six months, I also plan on sellingHi
I was wondering if anyone sold show quality lamonas I’m interested in showing and breeding them
I did the same thing just recently! I’m now the proud owner of 6 little lamona chicks. I’m trying to track down others to hopefully swap with periodically. I figure the last thing any of us would want is to let our special little flocks get too inbred and damage what’s left of the breed. Let me know if you’d ever be interested.Quote:
I want to here from the person who voted "We currently have Lamona large fowl chickens."
Well, I have paid for the hatching eggs. So I marked I have them. Though they do want to remain confidential, I will definetly share any hatching eggs we egt from the flock that hatches.
Thanks Chris and Dan.
Pardon me, I’m new (I have 6 Lamona chicks right now), but from experience with other rare livestock, I would think it would be FAR better for the breed if the few of us who have purebreds make deals to trade our best roosters on a regular basis. Just saying. Please, please don’t go crazy with those out crosses, you’ll lose the purebred genes.Quote:
Dan is correct. Instead of recreating the Lamonas, we need to preserve the original bloodline. We are supposed to get some White Dorking hatching eggs "if" they are available. Using White dorking, White Leghorn and White Plymouth Rock from good lines, we can outcross to one, take the pullets back to a "pure" Lamona male, outcross to the next breed, then back to the Lamona. We will keep a Lamona line and outcross lines. But we must keep at least a percentage of the original Lamona bloodline in the breed.
