Hi,

I have raised many chicks before, but usually only a few at a time.

Today I just received an order of 20 chicks from mcmurrys, and was wondering if I need to turn my lamp temperature down (i.e. move it further away) since there is more body heat from so many chicks?

They shipped together without an artificial heat source, but obviously they were more crammed in together in the box than the tub I have homed them in.
Do I still need to keep a corner of the tub at 95 farenheit?

Thanks,
James

Welcome,

Yes, at least keep a lamp in the corner at 95 then see if any are getting under it. They'll probably still all huddle in a mound together. If the chick mound isn't under the lamp, you'll be fine to back it off a bit. They'll let you know if they aren't comfortable.
