Hallo,

I am looking into incorporating some plants around the pond and I was wondering if anyone has tried using plants one might find somewhere like Lowe's. I intend on digging out a pond and establishing some plants around it. There are a few I have seen that look neat like blue rush and I was wondering if there were some that were not only non-toxic but could hold up to the general wear and tear of the ducks.

I was referring the part where they sometime choose not to ignore the plants due to the captivity and lack of other options. I am not trying to change them it is just something that can happen in those situations. I would love to free range them but I don't currently have a set up for it,

I'm thinking you could try herbs. Oregano and thyme should be thick enough for duck feet. Sage for foliage, mint for fast groundcover. They do all die back in winter so you might have to mulch it then.

My ducks, and geese, leave my herb and perennial garden alone -- but its nowhere near the pond. They love to root in the rich soil for worms. The greatest danger is from the geese tearing up fresh transplants.
