Langshan Bantam not able to walk, injured or diseased?

Hi ddawn, I shall look. Might need to bathe her again, feathery footed girl. I take it that may be a clue to whether it is a staph infection?

Yes; I was specifically thinking of bumblefoot. If she has a black area on the bottom of a foot, particularly. But staph is everywhere, and can certainly become systemic in people.

Here is a great source on bumblefoot: http://www.firststatevetsupply.com/poultry-health/bumblefoot.html

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice and for your support. This is a very friendly forum and it's lovely to know there are people out there to ask advice from.

June just died unfortunately in the last half hour. Most of the day she was fine, she'd been drinking frequently, little amounts. She ate some of the oat/egg/honey/yoghurt mixture. Then she did her struggling to breath thing again, which I hadn't seen all day. So I moved her away from my toddler while I was cooking and then I heard flapping and her beak hitting the side of the box. I went in and held her as she stretched out her neck and died. It was pretty sudden.

Again, thanks everyone

Cheers,

Kirsty

I am so sorry.

Have you considered getting a necropsy done to find out what is going on? I have no idea what this would entail there.

Oh so sorry to hear about June. I love langshans and they are hard to find over here, You'll have to get your other hen another friend.
