Langshan color question - is this really a splash?

I think mine is uniform in color. Mine is a pullet though.

Citalk2much got a cockerel. Wonder if she can get a picture of him.

Check the flight feathers and tail feathers. The rachis or central shaft on the feathers should be darker (the side facing in) than the rest of the feather.
If this is so, the bird is lavender. Blue birds have a darker central feather shaft facing in and out.

Either I am misunderstanding or ... didn't you just say that lavender is darker AND that blue is darker? I thought lavender was supposed to match the feather colour whereas blue is darker.

With lavender the feather shaft is often dark on the underside (like a dark line up te centre) but not on the outer surface of the feather, whereas blue shaft will be dark both sides.

Hey, I have one of those too. I named mine Oyster. He came from a black to black mating. I got him and a black pullet from those eggs. My eggs came from gamebirdsonly and he said that he has gotten some like that too.

He sure is pretty though. I'll upload a pic and post it in a sec.

Here he is in all of his glory!!! lol I thought he was a hen but lately I'm thinking Roo. Just look at his body shape. So far he hasn't attempted to crow and I really haven't seen any saddle feathers but he is starting to get in some metallic looking feathers down his back.

Here he is at about 10 weeks old. I'll have to wait to take a newer pic because my DH has my car and my camera is in the front seat. I'll take a pic of him beside a white leghorn so the difference should stand out.
