I had sapphire gem chicks. we wanted to make sure that they would come running to you, and had hopes of them becoming lap hens. I always used a towel to hold them. I also have an older hen (odile) that will scream if I don't pick her up the second I see her togive her pets. I have a special way of holding her, but it will probaly not work for you.

AN APRON!!!!!!!!!!
that is the reason that women all over the world have worn aprons for the past 2000+ years. you can hold it up and carry a sick hen, food bags, shavings, medicine, freshly picked veggies, and so much more.
every true farmer needs at least 3.
this is the reason why I also wear aprons.
