I drizzle 1/2 to 1 cup of lard that I melted in the microwave over the feed in the 4 feeders I use for 41 chickens and 3 ducks. I stir it in as I pour to coat the food. The chickens and ducks very much love it and seem more satisfied with it versus no fat. I guess it's like getting butter on your food. I use both bear lard and beef tallow, just because I happen to have both.
I drizzle the melted fat on both mash and crumbles, they love it. Especially the ducks, they make the most happiest sounds when eating it....they actually moan with gastronomical delight.
