Our 27 month old Barred Rock has a red bald patch with a white dot. The patch has no feathers and no new ones coming in. We cleaned some of the poop off. I was thinking the bald spot is where she lost some feathers in a poop clod, but it doesn't seem to look healthy. Her behavior seems normal. Please see the photo.

Is that on her vent? You need to soak her in warm water or use a warm wet hand towel and hold it place for a few minutes to remove the debris.

Once everything is removed and the area is dry apply neosporin over the inflamed areas. Might need to reapply the next day.

I'd give her a good clean up, get all the poop balls off. For stubborn stuck poop balls, lightly crush them with pliers taking care not to pinch the skin or pull too hard, the balls will crumble and be easier to get off.

The white dot looks like it may be an ingrown feather, hard to tell. You can take a sterilized needle (after you have cleaned off all the poop) and see if you can tease the feather out. It probably need to be plucked.

Once you get her all cleaned, apply some NuStock cream to the skin to help protect it and heal her. It may also deter picking.

Does she always have a messy bum? When was the last deworming?
